SUMMER DAY CAMP (Ages 6 to 16)
YMCA Day camp provides youth with supervised activities that teach core values (Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Inclusion), conflict resolution and leadership skills. Campers have fun while building self-confidence, appreciating teamwork and gaining independence. Day camp activities allow kids to create arts and crafts, explore science and technology, swim and appreciate nature. When a child attends our summer day camp, he or she sees the Y community consistently modeling these values and before long, they become second nature. Program includes free lunch, one t-shirt and swim camp.
C.I.T. COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING | Ages 13-16
The YMCA Counselor-in-Training program is designed to foster student interest in community development and leadership with children in a camp setting. This is an excellent, eight-week opportunity for teenagers to build confidence and have fun while learning the necessary skills to become successful leaders and counselors.
The program includes implementing camp curriculum, decision-making, public speaking, problem-solving, and team building. A day in the life of a CIT includes swimming, arts & crafts, field trips, fitness, creating a camp activity, community service, and leadership training. A certificate will be presented to campers who successfully complete the entire eight-week Counselor-in-Training program.
CIT’s are never responsible for the direct supervision of children. The CIT will assist counselors with programs and activities and will be responsible for helping the children to learn skills. The program is divided into two major components: a 90-minute workshop in the morning and a practicum in the afternoon.
Specific duties:
- Assist counselors to prepare equipment and supplies for activities.
- Help to secure supplies and equipment after activities.
- Aid children in their learning by providing a good example.
- Help to teach skills to campers and monitor activity areas.
- Provide children with role models; help them grow in character.
- Help children keep track of their belongings.
- Contribute ideas to make the program better.
- Report any unsafe actions to supervisor
