Please note during the Covid-19 Pandemic Group Exercise moved to a hybrid model of outdoor classes and live stream classes. The schedule is as follows until further notice:

 

Total Body Workout Outdoor Classes

Monday & Thursday 6:30 a.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. (Virtual Link for Bad Weather Only)-Classes meet at 20th Century Field on Elizabeth Street. Please make sure the instructor has your cell phone number before attending your first class. 

Virtual Body Sculpt Tuesday 6:00 p.m.

Virtual Zumba Wednesday 7:00 p.m.

Virtual SharQui Bellydance Thursday 12:00 

Virtual  Yogalates Mon and Thurs 7:00 p.m. and Fridays 5:00 p.m.

PILATES

Strengthen your core and elongate your body. Mondays or Wednesdays 12:00-1:00 

 

BODY SCULPT

A class using weights to build and tone your muscles. No impact. Thursdays 5:30-6:30 or Saturdays 10:30-11:30 a.m.

 

TOTAL BODY WORKOUT

Aerobics and strength that will get your blood pumping and tone your body. Fridays 6:30-7:30 a.m.  

 

30 MINUTE ABS

Thirty minutes of conditioning exercises for the torso and abdominal area. Also may include lower back exercises for balance. Thursdays 6:30 p.m. 

  

POWER HOUR

This is a 60 minute total body workout. A moderate to high intensity workout revolving around intervals of cardio, mixed with strength/conditioning exercises to give you a balanced workout.  Classes held outside during nice weather.Please make sure to give your email address when registering so instructor can communicate meeting place when classes change from indoors to outdoors and vice versa. Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 a.m. 

 

​Sun R.I.S.E.

(Resilient Interval & Strength Exercise) ​Get your cardio intervals in and build your strength through a variety of routines, equipment and applications first thing in the morning. Start your day feeling great. Mondays 6:30-7:30 a.m.

 

Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action)

A sensory-based movement lifestyle that draws from disciplines of the martial arts (aikido, tai chi, taekwondo), dance arts (jazz, modern, Duncan—a nature- and art-based approach to dance) and healing arts (yoga, Alexander technique, Feldenkrais). Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music, and offer unique combinations of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Mondays 7:00-8:00 p.m. or Fridays 12:00-1:00 p.m. 

 

LIVESTRONG

A 12-week program for adult cancer survivors. ... Through the program, certified YMCA instructors help patients build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve energy levels and self-esteem. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on the whole person, not the disease. Program is free and participants must have a diagnoses and complete an application. Next Session Starts March 2020. Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00-11:30 a.m. and Tuesdays 7:30-9:00 p.m. and Fridays 6:30-8:00 p.m. Please email garfieldymca@optonline.net if you'd like to participate and need to application. 

  

BARRE/PILATES

Using a ballet barre, and other props, this barre class will incorporate elements of ballet-inspired moves, Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Moves are low impact but high intensity; high reps / small range of motion.  Choreographed to fun, motivating music, you will tone your legs, butt, arms, strengthen your core and work towards long, lean muscles - all while having a lot of FUN!  All levels are welcome. Barre Classes are done barefoot or with barre (grippy) socks Please bring:  water, your yoga mat and a smile. Tuesdays 5:45-6:45 p.m. 

 

SILVER SNEAKER CLASS SERIES

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and or standing support.

Classic: (33 Outwater Lane) Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30-11:15 a.m. 

Circuit: (33 Outwater Lane) Thursdays 10:30-11:15 a.m. 

Yoga: (33 Outwater Lane) Tuesdays 10:30-11:15 a.m.

EnerChi: (33 Outwater Lane) Mondays 11:00-11:45 a.m. 

 

INTEGRAL YOGA

This class is taught by a certified yoga instructor. The class incorporates all aspects of yoga: physical (asana) breathing (pranayama) deep relaxation and meditation. Class is held on Saturday mornings from 9:00-10:15 a.m. (Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat and a blanket to class.)

 

VINYASA YOGA

Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. Commonly referred to as “flow” yoga. Sundays 9:30-10:30 a.m.

 

YOGALATES

A perfect mix of yoga and Pilates. This class will help you relax while strengthening your muscles and giving your body an overall leaning and lengthening work out. Thursdays 7:00-8:00 p.m. or Fridays 5:00-6:00 p.m. 

 

ZUMBA

A fusion of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps to the tune of international music. An intense, energetic, dance-aerobics workout, no dance experience required. Zumba is fun and energetic, Latin-based dance exercise featuring salsa, flamenco, meringue, mambo, samba, afro-Caribbean, belly dance and more. Zumba turns exercise into a dance party and can burn 500 to 700 calories in an hour.  

 

STRONG by ZUMBA

Stop counting the reps. Start training to the beat. STRONG by Zumba® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more. Tuesdays 6:45-7:30 p.m. 

 

SPIN

Whether you can run a marathon or simply enjoys a walk around the block. The Spinning program is designed for every rider at every fitness level. Spinning is a low impact exercise with immense benefitsStronger heart and lung capacity, build muscles in the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings and calf muscles.  Increase muscle strength, affecting the tendons, ligaments, and bones. It improves balance and coordination and can also reduce blood pressure.  All abilities and levels welcome as your instructor leads the group with a warm up, ride and cool down. Your ride will consist of hills, climbs, maximum exertion, and pleasant straight away. Your instructor will motivate you to stay focused and push yourself, but it’s up to you to choose your comfort level.  Thursdays 6:10-6:50 p.m. (Classes held at the Recreation Center)

 

MIXED FIT

No two classes are the same, but all do incorporate a healthy dose of cardio and some strength training. When the  weather is nice this class meets at 20th Century Field on Elizabeth Street. When not, it meets at 490 Midland Ave.  Modifications for all fitness levels!  Saturdays 7:45-9:00 a.m. 

 

CARDIO AND STRENGTH

Get a workout with a trainer in a small group setting right in our free weight room and in our cardio room. This is not a studio class. Wednesdays 4:45-5:30 p.m.

 

SENIOR ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

Meets once a month for a party! These parties are usually held after a silver sneakers class, about 11:30 a.m. Every month, members who are celebrating a birthday will be honored, including holiday celebrations with a costume party for Halloween. Participants pay a small price to cover lunch and the fun and entertainment is provided. Our seniors have been known to sing at their parties, bring in baked goods, homemade dishes, etc…  Parties meet at 70 Outwater Lane, are usually held the second week of the month. The signup sheet for parties is located at 33 Outwater Lane. 2-3 times a year our group meets outside of the Y at a restaurant for their party!
