HEALTHY LIVING - AQUATICS

 

AQUA ZUMBA

Splash your way into shape with an invigorating low-impact aquatic exercise. Known as the Zumba® "pool party," the Aqua Zumba program gives new meaning to the idea of a refreshing workout. Integrating the Zumba philosophy with traditional aquatic fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba® blends it all together into workout that's cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. Mondays 8:00-9:00 p.m. Cost is $10 for members, $50 for non-members. $15 drop in rate. 

WATER WORKOUT

If you would like to exercise in the water with no impact on the joints without lifting weights, this is the class for you. The exercises consist of resistance movements combined with muscle toning for a 45 minute class that will get you moving. This program is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15-10:00 a.m. $10 for Sr. members , $20 for members and $75.00 for non-members. Drop in Rate: $15

AQUACISE

This class is simply the morning version of Watercise. It is held three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00-10:00 a.m. $10 for Sr. members, $20 for members and $85.00 for non-members. Drop in Rate: $15.

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION AQUATIC PROGRAM

For those of you who suffer from arthritis or who are just looking to improve your range of motion and flexibility, The YMCA offers a slow moving class in the shallow end of the pool to get you moving. Tuesday and Thursdays from 8:30-9:15 a.m. $10 for Sr. members, $20 members, and $75.00 for non-members. Drop in Rate: $15.

WATERCISE

It’s an aerobics class in the shallow end of the pool! Water eases the pounding on joints and muscles that some people might feel when exercising in the gym. Classes are held Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. $10.00 for sr. members, $20 members and $75.00 for non-members. Drop in Rate: $15.

AQUA COMBO

You’ll get a toning and cardio experience in this class and also engage your abdominal muscles. It is done all in the shallow end of the pool, so class is low impact and gentle on the joints! Class is held on Saturdays from 8:45-9:45 a.m. Free for members, $50 non-members. Drop in Rate: $15.

SILVER SPLASH

A light work out in the pool that helps tone and stretch your muscles. Mondays 10:00-10:45 a.m. Free for members, $50 non-members. Drop in Rate: $15. Silver Sneakers Members Welcome! Great for Seniors.

ADULT SWIM LESSONS

Everyone should know how to swim and the YMCA gives you the opportunity to learn from the beginning or to brush up on your skills. Classes are in the evening, with a Beginner and Advanced offering. While the schedule has been to offer classes on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, please understand the schedule for adults is fairly consistent but classes do close out and week ends are not always available. Timing is 7:00 p.m. and later for the week day classes. Check the schedule for the current session by calling 973-772-7450. Cost is $40 for members and $100.00 for non-members

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

One on one instruction to help even the most intimidated swimmer be comfortable in the water or the advanced swimmer perfects their technique. Members only. Rates: $30/$35/$45 depending on length of lesson.

BODY SCULPT

TOTAL BODY WORKOUT

Aerobics and strength that will get your blood pumping and tone your body. Fridays 11:45 a.m.  Free for Members, Non-members $50. Drop in rate: $15

30 MINUTE ABS

Thirty minutes of conditioning exercises for the torso and abdominal area. Also may include lower back exercises for balance.  Thursdays 5:00 p.m. Free for members, non-members $30. Drop in Rate: $15

POWER HOUR

This is a 60 minute total body workout. A moderate to high intensity workout revolving around intervals of cardio, mixed with strength/conditioning exercises to give you a balanced workout.  Classes will he held outside so prepare to get dirty, bring a towel.  First week the program will meet at 20th Century Field located on Elizabeth St in Garfield. Please make sure to give your email address when registering so instructor can communicate meeting place if inclement weather. Wednesdays 6:45-7:45 a.m. Free for members, non-members $50. Drop in Rate: $15

STRESS MANAGEMENT CLASS

Oxygen is the most important food for the human body and our survival. Through the pratice of Pranayama (breathing Technique,) one can establish healthy breathing habits to detoxify the body. Meditation is a method of steadiness. Meditation improves pscyco-physical poise, tranquility, reduces stress and leads to deep relaxation. One can get many benefits for their overall healthy by reducing one's stress level. Fridays 11:15-12:00 p.m. ***FREE FOR ALL SENIORS 65 and OLDER. THIS IS A GIFT TO OUR SENIOR COMMUNITY TO HELP BATTLE OR WARD OFF DEPRESSION, ANXIETY IN LATER LIFE. WHILE THE PRACTICE IS BENEFICIAL TO ALL AND ANYONE MAY PARTICIPATE, WE FIND IT CRUCIAL FOR SENIORS AT THIS LIFE STAGE. Members Under 65: $10 Non-Members Under 65 $25.

SHARQUI BELLY DANCE

NEW PROGRAM! SharQui is a belly dance fitness format for people who simply want to have fun and feel good while working out! SharQui will shake up your perception of both you and belly dance through it’s easy-to-follow breakdown and repetitious format – all while making it feel like an indulgence. This program is for any shape, size and skill level and there is no other belly dance program like it in the world. So join us, and start shaking your beautiful self today! Hip Scarves are optional Hip scarves may be purchased through instructor for $15.Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Free for Members, $50 for non-members. Drop in Fee:$15

HATHA YOGA MORNING EDITION

Class is taught by a registered yoga teacher. Yoga means "union". Hatha Yoga integrates between the body, mind, and spirit to find one's inner peace and enhances one's well-being through asanas, breath control, and deep relaxation. A one hour session is designed to stimulate the chakras and distress from our modern society so one can live happier and healthier. Mondays 10:45-11:45 a.m Cost is $10 for members and $50 for non-members. Drop in Rate: $15. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a yoga mat to class. The Y has exercise mats that may be used if participant does not own a mat. This is the only non-peak class that has a charge for members. It is a great discount to our members who are available in the morning to take yoga for a nominal fee. 

SENIOR ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

Meets once a month for a party! These parties are usually held after a silver sneakers class, about 11:30 a.m. Every month, members who are celebrating a birthday will be honored, including holiday celebrations with a costume party for Halloween. Participants pay a small price to cover lunch and the fun and entertainment is provided. Our seniors have been known to sing at their parties, bring in baked goods, homemade dishes, etc…  Parties meet at 70 Outwater Lane, are usually held the second week of the month. The signup sheet for parties is located at 33 Outwater Lane. 2-3 times a year our group meets outside of the Y at a restaurant for their party!

 

PEAK CLASSES

($10 for members every 8 weeks. There are some peak classes at certain hours that are actually non-peak and free with your membership.)

 

BODY SCULPT

SILVER SNEAKER CLASS

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and or standing support.

Classic: Thursdays 9:45 a.m. (33 Outwater Lane) and Fridays at 9:45 a.m. (70 Outwater Lane.) Free for Silver Sneakers Members, $10 for sr. members, $20 members $75 for non-members. Drop in rate: $15 (Friday class at 70 Outwater Lane, 2nd Floor)

SILVER SNEAKERS YOGA

Yoga Stretch will teach a blend of three yoga styles to create a harmony of movement for the whole body. It is taught from both seated and standing position to enhance the flow and energy created in combination with restorative breathing exercises. Held on Wednesdays 9:45 a.m. Free for Silver Sneakers Members, $10 for Members, $50 non-members. Drop in rate: $15

STEP MEGA MIX

 The Class will incorporate body sculpting, cardio and circuit training with a Reebok step. Each week participants will enjoy a new workout routine. Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m. Great for all levels of fitness. $10 members, $50 non-members. Drop in rate: $15

INTEGRAL YOGA

This class is taught by a certified yoga instructor. The class incorporates all aspects of yoga: physical (asana) breathing (pranayama) deep relaxation and meditation. Class is held on Saturday mornings from 9:00-10:15 a.m. Cost is $20 for members and $120 for non-members. Drop in Rate: $15 (Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a yoga mat and a blanket to class. Yoga mats available at the Y for $10.00) 

KICKBOXING

Self Defense, Cardio training, and strength training. Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm. Members $10; non-members $50.  Drop in Rate: $15

CARDIO AND SCULPT

The name says it all, but each week you may get it in a different way! Mondays 5:00-6:00 p.m. Members $10; Non-Members $50. Drop in Rate: $15

YOGALATES

A perfect mix of yoga and Pilates. This class will help you relax while strengthening your muscles and giving your body an overall leaning and lengthening work out. Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m. or Fridays 5:00-6:00 p.m. Members $10, non-members $50. Drop in rate: $15

ZUMBA

 A fusion of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps to the tune of international music. An intense, energetic, dance-aerobics workout, no dance experience required. Zumba is fun and energetic, Latin-based dance exercise featuring salsa, flamenco, meringue, mambo, samba, afro-Caribbean, belly dance and more. Zumba turns exercise into a dance party and can burn 500 to 700 calories in an hour. Class is one hour long. Mondays 6:00 p.m. or Tuesdays 12:00 or Thursdays 6:30 p.m. or Saturdays 9:00 a.m. $10 members, $50 non-members. 

SPIN

All abilities and levels welcome as your instructor leads the group with a warm up, ride and cool down. Your ride will consist of hills, climbs, maximum exertion, and pleasant straight aways. Your instructor will motivate you to stay focused and push yourself, but it’s up to you to choose your comfort level. All classes are 45 minutes long.  Tuesday 6:00 a.m. or Thursdays 6:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. Members: $10 Non-Members $50. Drop in Rate: $15 

BOOT CAMP

A Fitness Bootcamp Class is an intense interval training and strength training class. It starts with a strong cardiovascular workout that includes plyometrics and in place cardio exercises that are sure to leave you dripping sweat; while improving resistance and increasing stamina. Follow by weight training that will condition and tone arms, legs and chest. Later, class will move on to an intense abdominal work out, pilates exercises as well as other killer core exercises. Last but not least, a relaxing stretch section that will target all areas of the body and will introduce yoga poses. In any Bootcamp class we will utilize a variety of fitness equipment such as 3 and 5lbs. weights, medicine balls, power bars, cones, yoga mats, chairs and much more to make our classes enjoyable and different every time. If you are looking to maximize you calorie burning count, rest assured that we will burn over 600 calories easily and if you want to increase your fitness level, this class will leave you gasping for air. Saturdays 7:45 a.m. Members $10, Non-Members $50. Drop in Rate: $15

MASALA BHANGRA 

The Masala Bhangra Workout® is an Indiand based dance program designed for people of all ages who love to stay physically active. Specifically, it introduces high energy Bhangra and Bollywood dance movements in an easy to follow format, and is a mechanism by which people have lost weight and benefited from the cardiovascular and psychological advantages that exercise provides! With the dance choreography directly influenced by the Indian culture, Masala Bhangra is a fresh, exciting addition to the world of fitness and dance. Hand scarves available through your instructor. (Not required for class.) Fridays 7:00-8:00 p.m. $10 Members, $50 non-members. Drop in Rate: $15.

The choreography of Bollywood dances takes inspiration from Indian folk dances, classical dances (like kathak) as well as disco and from earlier Hindi filmi dances. Of course, it all provides a great workout while having fun. Saturdays 9:00 a.m. Members $10, Non-Members $50. Drop in Fee: $15
